This topic has probably been done, but hey ho...

Silence of the Lambs - great score, but the sound quality! I'm sure I also heard some musicians shuffling about on their chairs as well.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Agreed. It's a great score with a really 'woolly' and 'pinched' sound to it.

Some of the older Prometheus discs, namely The Philadelphia Experiment and Of Unknown Origin sound pretty awfull.
The Chairman/Ransom also come to mind.
Also, Unbreakable sounds terrible, It's way too quiet.
King Kong (Barry)

And of course there's always The Edge....

Again, agreed.

Robotjox - enjoyable score recorded in a bucket of wet sand.

Please God, I remember a score that really deserve a better sound, how about "The Wind And The Lion" by Goldsmith?

That'd probably be No. 1 on my list.

Come on, talk about the buttered tape recorder head that was apprently used for ALIEN!! Compare that to the sound quality of ST:THE MOTION PICTURE, which was recorded the same year! I honestly can't believe how two scores from the same year can sound so differently...

Battle of Britain seems to have cues of quite varying sound quality (at least on the Goodwin part).

Conan the Barbarian. It just needs it. Those 26 horns or however many there were during the overture just sounded, well, underwhelming after I got excited after reading the liner notes.

But yes, the Wind and the Lion and Return of the Jedi without question, too.

Slightly off topic, but I've noticed the second half of "Good Start" on the Star Trek: TMP 20th Anniversary Soundtrack sounds flat. It's almost as if the first half of the track (which was previously available) sounds flawless, then it seems to cross-fade into an almost mono sounding track. I've listened to it many times and this always ends up being my impression.

The rest of the CD (Disc 1) sounds brilliant.

Are my ears deceiving me???

No. Apparently not all the session masters for Star Trek: TMP could be found. So some of the additional cues were taken from inferior sources (and "fixed" with noise reduction).

Not that bad, but could use a remastering job :

Star Trek III - The Search For Spock

One of Horner's best scores, but the recording lacks dynamic. Oh, it could be expanded as well Soundtracks that should sound a whole lot better (105)

Even worse than Radic's "The Long Ships" is the unbelievably bad Mainstream LP recording of Malcolm Arnold's excellent score - "The Heroes of Telemark." There's more dynamic range and presence on some recordings dating from the mid to late 1930s.

I saw "The Heroes of Telemark" on cable TV a few weeks ago and the film's overall sound was terrible - not only the music, but the dialog sounded muffled.

I actually don't mind the scratchy sound. It enhances the rough, unrefined feel of the score.
